Leather is the traditional material for clothing. Leather garments, whether for everyday wear or special occasions, are often expensive due to the cost of leather and the time required to make a garment.

Clothing made from leather has traditionally been worn by people involved with farming and in other trades where protection against the elements was necessary. Later it became associated with outlaws, bikers and rockers. While leather jackets have often been worn as protective outerwear by motorcyclists, they are now also used in popular culture more generally, such as by punks. With a resurgence of interest in steampunk fashion during the 2000s, leather jackets began to appear in new styles and colors and were worn by both men and women.

Leather boots come in a variety of styles, from ankle-high boots to knee-length or longer ones. They may be zip-fastened or pulled on, have flat soles or wedge heels. Cowboy boots are a special type of riding boot which evolved from the traditional Hessian boot into a specialized equestrian boot that is considered an important aspect of traditional western wear.

Leather clothing is clothing made of animal skin. Leather has been used by humans since the earliest days of human civilization. It was worn by both genders, but was more commonly used by men. It became a symbol of wealth and status as it was difficult to manufacture.

Leather continued to grow in popularity throughout the 1970s and 1980s because of its association with rock music and increased popularity among people who were part of that culture. In the 1990s and 2000s, leather began to become a common material for pants and skirts, which had previously not been seen in the use of leather outside of jackets

Leather has been used for clothing by humans since at least the Stone Age. It is one of the oldest natural materials used for making clothing. Leather is a durable and flexible material created from the skin of an animal by tanning or a similar process.

The leather production process begins with raw hides that have been selected for quality and consistency. These are cleaned and then treated in a drum with salt solutions to remove any remaining hair.

Leather can be produced through different manufacturing processes, including vegetable tanning, chrome tanning, synthetic tanning, composite tanning and alum tanning. During tanning, the skins undergo a preservation process that changes the protein structure of the rawhide and makes it more durable and less susceptible to decomposition. Once tanned, the finished hides are sent to manufacturers that turn them into leather products.

Leather can be dyed almost any color depending on the type of leather being processed, though black and brown are ubiquitous in both garment and furniture applications due to their versatility.
